Inscription – The War Within

Hey Gaming Heroes! In this guide we’ll go over Inscription in The War Within, how it works, and how you can make gold with it!

Pro Tip before we start: If your character is Kul’Tiran, you’ll get the Jack of All Trades buff which is great for crafting in general, and even better if your character is a Nightborne you’ll get Ancient History!

Inscription Trainer

Starting at character level 68, you can learn Khaz Algar Inscription from the following trainers in Dornogal:

  • Brrigan – located in Dornogal at coordinates /way 48.7 70.9

If you’re having trouble locating the trainer, don’t hesitate to ask a city guard for directions.

Materials You’ll Be Using

Here’s a list of materials you’ll be using for Inscription in the War Within.

Inscription Equipment

For each crafting and gathering profession, there is one tool and two accessories slots. They’ll give you additional stats that will be much welcome!

There are two variants of each tool and accessories. You can already create a version with level 68 and buy or sell in the auction house. You can create the significantly better version yourself, depending on your profession, or purchase it through the craft order system from other players. You must be level 80 for use.

As a scribe you can make your own tool:

And then your accessories will come from Jewelcrafting (use work orders/the auction house if you need to):

Inscription Bag

This is a new thing in the War Within, you get really cool profession specific bags that give you bonuses when crafting! The one for Inscription is the Darkmoon Duffle, you can get it through work orders.

Do some Milling with about 400x Mycobloom and 200x Luredrop (you might need a little more if you are unlucky).

20-30

Craft Apricate Ink up to level 30.

30-40

Here craft as many Boundless Ciphers as you need, aswell as a Lightweight Scribe’s Quill which you can equip.

60-100

40-50x Vantus Rune: Nerub-ar Palace (again, depends on luck, craft until level 100)

Specializations

Once your inscription skill reaches 25, you’ll unlock specializations. It’s important to carefully review these options and choose the path that aligns with your goals. To unlock the second specialization, you’ll need a skill level of 50, for the third, a skill level of 75, and the final one will unlock at skill level 100.

If you aim to unlock all specializations, be prepared to invest a total of 780 knowledge points.

By investing knowledge points in the various specialization trees, you’ll increase your skill in that category by 1 point per knowledge point. The higher your skill, the better your yield. Additionally, every 5 knowledge points unlock additional attributes!

Pursuit of Knowledge

Pursuit of Knowledge is a “generic” tree where you’ll gain the ability to craft the Algari Treatise on Inscription which gives you some easy knowledge points! You’ll also get a bunch of secondary stats like multicraft, resourcefulness and ingenuity, which are all super helpful overall.

If you’re not sure which spec to pick, this will definitely not be a bad decision as it gives you overall buffs when doing Inscription.

Pursuit of Perfection

This one is for crafting reagents. There are three subspecs: one for inks, one for ciphers and one for milling. You’ll get crafting speed increases when crafting reagents if you invest your knowledge points in here, and you’ll get some massive skill increases when crafting those reagents.

This one is more specific, so make sure you’re going to create a bunch of reagents!

Careful Carvings

Perfect your ability to produce new weapons and professional equipment.

  • Master your pen and perfect other professional tools.
  • Makes high quality rods and shield hands.
  • Refines the finishing production to save resources.

All in all, this is a great spec if you’re trying to craft gear, from profession tools to staff and off-hands! Note that if you want to make gold from this, chances are you might have to compete with all the other crafters and use trade chat to advertize. If that’s what you want to do, then go for Careful Carvings!

  • Learn how to find and describe Dark Moon Cards in Khaz Algar.
    • Improve your Darkmoon Cards ability to 50%!

Weekly knowledge points

Monthly knowledge points

  • As usual, you can get some knowledge points from completing quests in the Darkmoon Faire.

So, What Can I Craft?

Well, there’s a lot you can do with Inscription. If you’re trying to make gold, things like vantus runes or reputation contracts are always VERY high in demand, especially at the start of the expansion, so you could make a lot of gold selling those on the auction house! Alternatively, you could focus on crafting best in slot gear and make gold from that too, although that might take more work since you’ll need to acquire the recipes/knowledge points AND advertize in Trade Chat.
