Alchemy – The War Within

Hey Gaming Heroes! In this guide we’ll go over Alchemy in The War Within, how it works, and how you can make gold with it!

Pro Tip before we start: If your character is Kul’Tiran, you’ll get the Jack of All Trades buff which is great for crafting in general, and even better if your character is a goblin you’ll get Better Living Through Chemistry!

Alchemy Trainer

Starting at character level 68, you can learn Khaz Algar Alchemy from the following trainers in Dornogal:

  • Tarig – located in Dornogal at coordinates /way #2339

If you’re having trouble locating the trainer, don’t hesitate to ask a city guard for directions.

Materials You’ll Be Using

Alchemy Equipment

For each crafting and gathering profession, there is one tool and two accessories slots. They’ll give you additional stats that will be much welcome!

As an alchemist you cannot make any tools or accessories yourself. You’ll have to use work orders to get other crafters to do it for you.

There are two variants of each tool and accessories. You can already create a version with level 68 and buy or sell in the auction house. You can create the significantly better version yourself, depending on your profession, or purchase it through the craft order system from other players. You must be level 80 for use.

Inscription crafts your essential tools:

You can also get a cool hat from Leatherworking:

And finally, Tailoring creates alchemist robes:

Alchemy Bag

This is a new thing in the War Within, you get really cool profession specific bags that give you bonuses when crafting! The one for Alchemy is Concoctor’s Clutch, you can get it through work orders.

Leveling Alchemy

Here’s how to go from 1 to 100 skill points in TWW Alchemy:

(you’ll need about 100-150 Gilded Vials, ~250 Mycoblooms and ~100 arathor’s Spear to get to level 35)

1-25

20-30x Algari Healing Potion

25-35

8-18x Petal Powder

Past 35 you’ll need to use Wild Experimentation. Basically you put some herbs in and hope you’ll get a new recipe. You can then craft that recipe to get some more skill points and keep going.

Special Case 1: You get the Recent Catastrophe debuff. This means you won’t be able to craft for a few minutes.

Special Case 2: You unlock Meticulous Experimentation. This is awesome! It’s a daily cooldown but it will give you a guaranteed skill point each day.

Fun Fact: if you put in Mycoblooms for your Wild Experimentation, you’ll unlock recipes that use Mycobloom! It works the same way with every herb, so if you’re trying to get a specific recipe you know what to do.

Specializations

Once your alchemy skill reaches 25, you’ll unlock specializations. It’s important to carefully review these options and choose the path that aligns with your goals. To unlock the second specialization, you’ll need a skill level of 50, for the third, a skill level of 65, and the final one will unlock at skill level 75.

If you aim to unlock all specializations, be prepared to invest a total of 565 knowledge points.

By investing knowledge points in the various specialization trees, you’ll increase your skill in that category by 1 point per knowledge point. The higher your skill, the better your yield. Additionally, every 5 knowledge points unlock additional attributes!

Alchemical Mastery

Alchemical mastery is a “generic” tree where you’ll gain the ability to craft new reagents such as Formulated Courage or Harmonious Horticulture.

Additionally, you’ll be able to unlock 5 sub-specializations: one for each TWW Plant. Each specialization will help you get better at crafting recipes that use this plant.

For example if you want to craft Algari Healing Potion very efficiently, you can put points in the Mycobloom sub-specialization.

Fantastic Flasks

This is an amazing spec if you are trying to craft flasks (you probably guessed from the name).

There are two sub-specializations:

Bulk Production: this will unlock the Flask Spillover buff, which gives you a bunch of Resourcefulness if you craft multiple flasks in a row!

Profession Phials: Does the same thing as Bulk Production but for Phials instead of Flasks.

Potent Potions

This is a really simple specialization: basically, it makes you a god at crafting potions.

Yes that’s pretty much it. You’ll get tons of skill points from crafting potions, and if you spec into the only sub-specialization, you’ll get a buff whenever you craft multiple potions in a row.

Thaumaturgy

Thaumaturgy is here for all your transmutation needs! Here’s what you need to know:

You’ll unlock the Thaumaturgy spell: this allows you to take some materials (could be herbs, leather, ores…) and turn it (randomly) into another material of the same “group”. For example if you put it some Mycobloom you might get some Bismuth Ore, Weavercloth or Storm Dust! This is great because it means you could buy some cheap materials and turn them into more expensive ones (you’ll have to check the auction house prices first to make sure you are profiting).

You’ll also learn the production of Blasphemite for jewellery. This is going to be a very high in demand gem so it could definitely be worth crafting!

You can activate the following plans:

Knowledge Points

Unique knowledge points

  • In the crafting professions, the first production of an object grants a point of knowledge, which is why you should at least produce each recipe.

Weekly knowledge points

  • Profession Quest in Dornogal
Once a week, you’ll be able to pickup the Quest Alchemy Services Requested, you will get two knowledge points. To activate these, the quest of Roldira needs to be completed.
  • NPC orders
At your job table, you now have jobs from NPCs (customers) among the orders that can reward you with sparks and mica. Look out for Flicker of Alchemy Knowledge and Glimmer of Alchemy Knowledge
  • From the inscription customer via crafts mission
Algari Treatise on Alchemy: An object that the scribes can produce for you by means of a crafting order and which you can use once a week.
  • Knowledge from boxes in the world
According to rumors, there are two items for each manufacturing profession, which can be found in boxes in each area, on a weekly basis. You grant 1-2 knowledge points per item. For alchemy, these would be Deepstone Crucible and Alchemical Sediment.

Monthly knowledge points

  • As usual, you can get some knowledge points from completing quests in the Darkmoon Faire.

Transmutation

Chances are, one great way to make gold will be crafting Blasphemite. You can do this by choosing the Thaumaturgy specialization, then pick any sub-specialization that will allow you to start transmuting along with the Gleaming Transmutagen spec.

This means that whenever you do transmutation, you’ll get materials that you can THEN use to craft Blasphemite to make loads of gold! This is a pretty basic setup so we’ll get into more of this in future guides. In the meantime, thank you for reading this guide!
