What’s up gaming heroes, welcome back to another awesome World of Warcraft guide.
So, you just hit level 90 in WoW Midnight and suddenly the game throws about 400 different systems at you all at once.
And if you don’t know what actually matters first, it’s very easy to waste time or progress inefficiently.
This guide will walk you through the exact order I personally recommend for a fresh level 90 character so you can gear up quickly, unlock important systems, and avoid getting overwhelmed.
Buy Auction House Gear Immediately
The moment I hit level 90, the first thing I do is open the Auction House.
I’m not trying to build a perfect character here.
I’m simply trying to stop my character feeling weak.
What To Buy
Buy:
- Cheap item level upgrades
- Ignore overpriced items
- Focus on value only
Most pieces are only a few hundred gold each.
Your goal is simply to push your item level high enough to comfortably begin actual endgame content.
Typically this gets you to roughly:
👉 Item level 190–200
For almost no effort.
This is a massive early power increase.

Prioritise Weekly Quest and World Boss
Once your item level is stable, immediately focus on:
- Weekly quest
- World boss
These should always be your first major objectives every week.
World Boss
Open your map and locate the current world boss.
To make this easier:
- Click the world boss icon
- Open Group Finder
- Join a group
This usually takes:
- Around 2 minutes total
Very easy.
Why It Matters
The world boss can drop:
- Strong gear upgrades
- Warbound gear for alts
- Raw gold
Even if you get unlucky, it’s still free progression.
Complete Your Weekly Activities
Your weekly quest will normally ask you to complete activities such as:
- World quests
- Delves
- Other open world systems
Do this immediately.
The rewards are extremely valuable early on.
You get:
- Gear
- Crests
- Gold
- Reputation
- Progression currencies
- Weekly caches
These systems accelerate your character massively.
Use World Quest Tracker
While doing world content, I strongly recommend:
👉 World Quest Tracker
This addon dramatically speeds things up and helps you prioritise efficient rewards.
What To Prioritise
Focus on:
- Gold world quests
- Gear upgrades
- Special assignments
- Important caches
Avoid wasting time on low-value objectives early.
Special Assignments Are Extremely Important
Special assignments are one of the best early progression systems.
These reward:
- Strong gear
- Gold
- Additional progression materials
Always complete them whenever available.
Especially early on, they are extremely valuable.
Do the Soirée in Eversong Woods
A huge amount of players skip this.
Don’t.
The Soirée offers one of the easiest weekly rewards available.
Main Quest To Do
👉 Fortifying the Runestones
This is a group activity, but it’s extremely easy.
Simply:
- Join a group
- Fly to objectives
- Complete the event
Usually takes:
- Around 3 minutes
Rewards
You receive:
- Gold
- Gear
- Materials
- Additional progression rewards
Even later into the expansion, this remains worth doing for the easy gold alone.
Timewalking Is Incredible For Fresh Characters
If Timewalking is active when you hit level 90:
Do it immediately.
Prioritise
- 5 Timewalking dungeon weekly
- Additional dungeon runs
- Timewalking raid if available
Why It’s Good
Timewalking provides:
- Fast gear upgrades
- Champion gear
- Hero gear
- Weekly rewards
It’s one of the easiest catch-up systems in the game.
Move Into Bountiful Delves
Once you’ve completed:
- Weekly quest
- World boss
- World quests
- Soirée
It’s time for the real gearing system:
👉 Bountiful Delves
Recommended Difficulty
Aim for:
- Tier 8 delves
This gives the best balance between:
- Difficulty
- Speed
- Reward quality
Tier 11 is possible, but much slower and harder on fresh characters.
Best Delve Setup
I personally prefer:
- Tank spec
Because you can:
- Pull aggressively
- Survive easily
- Clear faster
If you don’t have a tank spec:
- Use a healer companion
This makes delves dramatically easier.
Important Delve Tip
Do NOT rush straight to the objective.
Kill the special elites marked by:
👉 Helmet icons on the minimap
These improve your end rewards significantly.
Also:
- Use Treasure Maps whenever possible
They massively improve delve loot.
Expected Item Level After Delves
If you complete your Bountiful Delves properly, you should end up around:
👉 230–240 item level
Depending on luck.
Fix Weak Gear Slots
At this stage, you’ll usually have:
- One or two weak items dragging your character down
Open your character panel and identify your weakest slots.
Ways To Fix Weak Slots
- Low Mythic Plus
- Crafted gear
- Work Orders
- Additional world content
Crafting is often the easiest solution.
Crafted Gear Is Extremely Valuable
Using work orders, you can craft powerful upgrades using currencies earned naturally from world content.
This is an excellent way to fix bad gear slots quickly.
Important Long-Term Tip
Eventually, you want:
👉 Two crafted pieces with embellishments
These provide massive bonuses to:
- Damage
- Healing
- Survival
Depending on your role.
Spend Your Crests
Please stop hoarding crests forever.
Just use them.
A lot of players sit on currencies while struggling to get invited into content because their item level is too low.
Upgrade your gear.
Higher item level means:
- Better delves
- Better groups
- Better vault rewards
- Faster progression
You can always earn more crests later.
Stormarian Assault (Optional Extra)
If you want another solo-friendly activity:
Do the:
👉 Stormarian Assault in Voidstorm
This rewards:
- Extra caches
- Additional gear chances
Very solid for solo players.
Unlock Bonus Rolls
While in Voidstorm, complete the questline from:
👉 Desimus in Howling Ridge
This unlocks:
- Bonus Rolls
- Ascendant Void Shards
These systems are extremely important long-term.
Ascendant Void Shards Explained
Once you collect:
👉 5 Ascendant Void Shards
You can combine them to upgrade max-level gear even further.
This massively increases item power.
You naturally earn shards from:
- Tier 11 delves
- Mythic Plus
- Void Rituals
- Raids
Very worth unlocking early.
Complete the Abundance Quest
Another important progression system is:
👉 Abundance
Find the current abundance event on the map and complete it.
This rewards important profession currencies needed later for top-end crafting gear.
Skipping this will slow down your long-term progression.
Weekly Vault
As you complete activities, you unlock options in your:
👉 Weekly Vault
This resets every Wednesday.
Sometimes you get amazing gear.
Sometimes you don’t.
If the rewards are bad:
- Take tokens instead
These can be used for:
- Sockets
- Gold
- Other useful rewards
The vendor is next to the vault in Silvermoon.
Start Building Tier Sets
Once your gear stabilises, begin focusing on:
👉 Tier set bonuses
These are massive power spikes.
Tier Set Bonuses
- 2-piece bonus = strong buff
- 4-piece bonus = huge buff
These massively improve your character.
Use the Catalyst
To convert gear into tier pieces:
- Visit the Catalyst in Silvermoon
You gain catalyst charges naturally by playing the game and completing weekly content.
This is one of the best catch-up systems in Midnight.
Final Character Goal
By the end of this progression route, you should be around:
👉 250 item level or higher
At this point your character is fully online and ready for:
- Mythic Plus
- Heroic raiding
- Profession optimisation
- Passive gold making
- Weekly vault progression
This is where the game starts feeling really smooth and enjoyable.
Final Thoughts
This is the exact progression route I personally used to gear multiple characters efficiently in WoW Midnight.
No weird spreadsheets.
No bloated checklists.
No nonsense.
Just a clean, practical order of operations that gets your character powerful quickly.
