Why Patron Orders Are Worth Doing

Patron Orders are valuable because you are not receiving only one form of reward.

Depending on the order, completing it may provide:

• Profession Knowledge
• Moxie

Profession Knowledge is particularly important because it permanently improves your character’s crafting ability. You do not need a huge alt army to benefit from Patron Orders. A single character with two established professions can still complete profitable orders whenever they become available.

However, the method becomes stronger as you add more characters because each character receives their own Patron Orders.

A player with one character might only find a handful of profitable orders during a reset. A player with ten crafting characters can multiply that opportunity across twenty professions.

The main limitation is time. If processing every character takes too long, the additional profit may not justify the effort.

The Best Addons for Patron Orders

CraftSim is the most important addon for this method.

It can analyse your available Patron Orders, calculate their expected crafting cost and place suitable orders into a Craft Queue.

This saves you from manually inspecting every order and calculating whether its rewards are worth the required materials.

Auctionator

Auctionator allows CraftSim to generate an automatic shopping list containing the materials required for your queued orders.

Rather than manually writing down each reagent, you can create the list with one button and then purchase the exact quantities through the Auction House.

TradeSkillMaster Desktop Application

The TradeSkillMaster Desktop Application helps keep pricing data updated.

Accurate prices are important because CraftSim relies on market values when calculating whether an order appears profitable.

Without reliable pricing data, an order may appear more or less valuable than it actually is.

What You Receive From Patron Orders

The direct reward displayed on the Patron Order is only part of the value.

You may also receive bags containing:

• Current expansion crafting materials
• Profession-related reagents
• Moxie
• Profession Knowledge
• Valuable recipes

Everything should be evaluated rather than immediately vendored or ignored.

Some common materials may only be worth a modest amount individually, but the value adds up when you complete orders across several characters every week.

Rare recipes can potentially be worth considerably more, depending on your region, realm and current demand.

How Often Should You Complete Patron Orders?

The larger Patron Orders that reward two Profession Knowledge generally reset every four days.

Because of this, many players process their characters approximately twice per week. I like to do mine on Wed / Sun as thats a really common day to raid, so materials tend to be at a good value.

You can inspect Patron Orders daily, but this may not be the best use of your time if you have many characters. You might catch a few additional orders, but the extra travel, shopping and character switching can make the method feel like a chore.

For most players, one or two organised sessions per week provide a better balance between profit and time.

I would personally recommend beginning with one session each week. Once you are comfortable with the process, add a second session if the extra rewards justify the additional time.

Combine Patron Orders With Concentration Crafts

If you already manage profession characters, consider completing Patron Orders on the same day as your Concentration crafts.

This allows you to handle the majority of your profession maintenance in one organised session.

For example, you could:

1. Log onto each crafting character.
2. Complete their valuable Concentration crafts.
3. Check their available Patron Orders.
4. Deposit the rewards into the Warband Bank.
5. Move to the next character.
6. Sell everything from your dedicated Auction House character at the end.

Grouping these tasks together reduces the feeling that you constantly need to log between characters throughout the week.

The overall process looks like this:

1. Visit your profession’s crafting table.
2. Open the Patron Orders tab.
3. Use CraftSim to analyse the available orders.
4. Add suitable Patron Orders to your Craft Queue.
5. Generate an Auctionator shopping list.
6. Purchase the missing materials.
7. Return to the crafting table.
8. Complete the queued orders.
9. Collect the rewards from your mailbox.
10. Deposit valuable materials into your Warband Bank.
11. Sell the rewards from your Auction House character.

You can complete everything manually, but that becomes increasingly inefficient when using multiple characters.

Not every order needs to show an immediate profit to be worth completing.

An order costing 100 gold might still be worthwhile if it rewards Profession Knowledge that permanently strengthens your crafting character.

However, you should not use this as an excuse to complete every expensive order.

I personally pay more to learn knowledge points so I can provide good crafting for my guildies, which in turn earns more more profit opportunities.

Creating the Auctionator Shopping List

Once CraftSim has created your queue, it can generate a shopping list. Press the Create Auctionator Shopping List button inside the Craft Queue window.

Then visit the Auction House and open Auctionator’s Shopping tab.

You should see a shopping list created by CraftSim. Select the list and allow Auctionator to scan the available materials.

CraftSim should already have calculated the required quantities, so you can work through the list and purchase what you need.

Always glance at the prices before buying. Pricing data can occasionally be outdated, or a material may suddenly have been reset far above its normal value.

An order that looked profitable when it entered the queue may no longer be profitable if someone has manipulated the material price.

Avoid Blindly Buying Expensive Materials

Automation is useful, but it should not replace basic judgement.

Before purchasing a particularly expensive material, ask yourself:

• Is this price unusually high?
• Does the order still make sense at the current cost?
• Am I completing this for profit or Profession Knowledge?
• Could I wait for the material price to fall?
• Do I already own this material elsewhere in my Warband Bank?

Spending Your Moxie

You may receive Moxie directly from Patron Orders and through profession progression.

Spend your Moxie on the profession reagent bags available to your character.

These bags can contain:

• Useful crafting materials

• Items with strong Auction House demand

The contents should usually be sold unless you need them for your own profitable crafts.

Do not allow Moxie to sit unused indefinitely. Turning it into reagent bags is part of converting the entire Patron Order system into actual gold.

Use the Warband Bank

The Warband Bank is one of the biggest time-saving tools for this strategy.

After completing the orders on a character, deposit the valuable rewards and materials into your Warband Bank.

Then move to the next character.

Once you have completed the process across your roster, log onto your main Auction House character, remove everything from the Warband Bank and list it together.

This is much faster than posting items individually from every crafting alt.

It also makes it easier to see the total rewards generated by the session.

Which Professions Work Best?

This method can be used with every crafting profession.

Some professions may receive more attractive orders during a particular reset, but the available rewards and material costs can change over time.

The most important factor is whether the character already has a reasonably developed profession.

If you already have characters with crafting professions, check their orders regardless of profession.

Do not reroll your entire profession setup purely because another profession appears slightly better during one particular week.

The advantage comes from consistently completing the good orders across the professions you already possess.

Common Patron Order Mistakes

Completing every available order

Some orders cost far more than their rewards are worth.

Use filters and judgement rather than treating every Patron Order as mandatory.

Spending Concentration without checking

Your Concentration may generate considerably more gold through a personal craft.

Compare the value before committing it to an order.

Buying materials at any price

An unexpectedly expensive reagent can turn an apparently profitable order into a significant loss.

Ignoring Profession Knowledge

Looking only at immediate gold can cause you to skip cheap orders that provide valuable permanent progression.

Checking every character every day

Daily checks can generate slightly more value but may produce terrible gold per hour when managing a large roster.

Leaving rewards spread across alts

Centralise the materials through your Warband Bank and sell from one character.

Forgetting deposit gold
