Fishing - The War Within

Fishing in The War Within serves as a valuable source of ingredients for Cooking and other professions like Inscription and Alchemy. By fishing, players can gather essential materials needed for crafting various items, making it an important skill for those who want to maximize their profession-related activities.

In addition to its practical uses, Fishing also offers access to several exclusive cosmetic items that can only be purchased with a new Fishing currency, Mereldar Derby Marks. This currency is earned weekly through the Hallowfall Fishing Derby and can also be found in Careless Dasher’s Treasure by fishing from treasure pools in Khaz Algar.

As an extra incentive, completing the related The Derby Dash achievement rewards players with the unique Kah, Legend of the Deep mount, making Fishing not only a functional profession but also a gateway to exclusive rewards in The War Within.

Learning Fishing in The War Within

In The War Within, there are several Fishing trainers scattered throughout Khaz Algar, ready to teach players the essentials of Khaz Algar Fishing.

Important Note: If you already have Fishing skills from a previous expansion, you will still be able to fish and catch fish in Khaz Algar. However, you cannot level up your Fishing skill for The War Within content until you learn Khaz Algar Fishing from a local trainer.

The first trainer that many players are likely to encounter is Drokar, who can be found at the Keepers Terrace in Dornogal at coordinates /way 50.4 26.8.

Leveling Fishing in The War Within

Players can level up their Fishing skill the traditional way—by catching a lot of fish. In addition to this classic method, players can also level up by finding and using Soaked Journal Entries, which can be fished from pools or purchased with Mereldar Derby Marks from the weekly Hallowfall Fishing Derby.

Flexible Fishing Locations: You can successfully fish anywhere in Khaz Algar, regardless of your current Fishing skill level. However, be aware that fishing in higher-level zones or pools does not guarantee an increase in Fishing skill. As your skill increases, it will take more casts to gain each additional point.

Profession Secondary Stats in Fishing

The primary profession secondary stat that applies to Fishing is Perception. Increasing your Perception can significantly enhance your ability to catch rare fish and items.

Boosting Perception: One effective way to build Perception is by purchasing or crafting an Algari Weaverline and upgrading it with Algari Seekerthread. Tailors can craft the Algari Weaverline, and upgrading it with Algari Seekerthread increases Perception by 100 permanently, giving you a greater chance to catch rare fish and other valuable items.

By focusing on leveling your Fishing skill and enhancing your Perception, you can maximize your fishing success in The War Within.

New Fish in The War Within

In The War Within, there are over 20 new fish to catch across various Fishing Pools in the four new zones of Khaz Algar. Each fish serves a unique purpose, with some offering special abilities or stat bonuses to players. Cursed Ghoulfish: This fish has a chance to be caught when fishing in areas above your skill level.
Sanguine Dogfish: Use Bloody Perch to gain up to 10 stacks of Bloody Chum, which increases your chances of catching the Sanguine Dogfish.

New Fishing Pools in The War Within

Many fish in Khaz Algar can be caught randomly from any water source, but specific fish can be targeted by fishing in particular pools found throughout each zone.

To locate these pools on the minimap, it’s recommended to purchase an Angler’s Guide from any Fishing Supplies Vendor.

Calm Surfacing Ripple & River Bass Pool

Calm Surfacing Ripple is one of the most common pools and can be found in every zone of Khaz Algar, while River Bass Pool is exclusive to the first two zones: Isle of Dorn and The Ringing Deeps.
Exclusive Fish:
Nibbling Minnow: Found only in Calm Surfacing Ripple, throwing it back into the water grants a +45 Perception buff for 30 seconds, stackable up to 5 minutes.
Dornish Pike: Salvaging 5 Dornish Pike provides Fresh Fillet for various Cooking recipes.
Additional Fish:
Dilly-Dally Dace, Quiet River Bass, Spiked Sea Raven can also be caught from Calm Surfacing Ripple.
River Bass Pool only contains Quiet River Bass. Throwing a Dilly-Dally Dace back into the water grants +10 Fishing for 30 seconds, stackable up to 5 minutes. Salvaging 5 Quiet River Bass or Spiked Sea Raven yields Fresh Fillet.

Glimmerpool

Found in every zone of Khaz Algar, this pool is the exclusive home of:
Bismuth Bitterling: Throwing it back into the water grants +10 Fishing for 30 seconds, stackable up to 5 minutes.
Crystalline Sturgeon: Throwing it back into the water grants a +45 Perception buff for 30 seconds, stackable up to 5 minutes.
Specular Rainbowfish: Salvaging 5 provides Fresh Fillet for Cooking recipes.
Additional Fish:
Spiked Sea Raven and Goldengill Trout can also be found in Glimmerpool. Catching a Goldengill Trout automatically grants a Perception buff without needing to throw it back.

Blood in the Water, Swarm of Slum Sharks, & Bloody Perch Swarm

Bloody Perch Swarm: Found in Isle of Dorn or Hallowfall.
Blood in the Water: Exclusive to Hallowfall.
Swarm of Slum Sharks: Found in Hallowfall or Azj-Kahet.
Exclusive Fish:
Arathor Hammerfish: Found only in Blood in the Water, this fish can stun an enemy for 1 second when used, making it useful for World Events or War Mode.
Additional Fish:
Bloody Perch can be caught in any of these pools. Throwing it back increases the chance of catching a Sanguine Dogfish by 10% for 5 minutes, stackable up to 10 times.
Kaheti Slum Shark can be caught in Blood in the Water or Swarm of Slum Sharks.
Sanguine Dogfish and Dilly-Dally Dace can also be caught in Blood in the Water. Salvaging 5 Sanguine Dogfish or Kaheti Slum Shark provides Fresh Fillet.

Festering Rotpool & Infused Ichor Spill

Festering Rotpool: Found only in Isle of Dorn.
Infused Ichor Spill: Found in Hallowfall and Azj-Kahet.
Common Fish:
Goldengill Trout and Pale Huskfish are found in both pools. Pale Huskfish is particularly rare and can contain a treasure trove of items when opened.
Additional Fish:
Bloody Perch and Dilly-Dally Dace can also be found in Festering Rotpool.

Stargazer Swarm

Location: Most commonly found on the coasts of Isle of Dorn.
Key Catches:
Whispering Stargazer: Can be thrown into the waters of Azj-Kahet to attract the rare Awoken Coelacanth.
Spiked Sea Raven: Salvaging 5 Spiked Sea Raven or Awoken Coelacanth provides Fresh Fillet.

Anglerseeker Torrent

Location: Exclusive to The Ringing Deeps.
Key Catches:
Roaring Anglerseeker: The exclusive fish of this pool. Salvaging 5 provides Fresh Fillet.
Spiked Sea Raven and Awoken Coelacanth can also be found here.

Royal Ripple

Location: Found in the final two zones, Hallowfall and Azj-Kahet.
Key Catches:
Regal Dottyback: Used to ward off Cursed Ghoulfish and attract Queen’s Lurefish.
Queen’s Lurefish: Salvaging 5 provides Fresh Fillet. Both are used to create The Sushi Special.

Shore Treasure & Floating Deep Treasure

Shore Treasure: Found in Isle of Dorn.
Floating Deep Treasure: Found in The Ringing Deeps or Hallowfall.
Contents: These treasure pools can contain a variety of items, including crafting materials, fishing-exclusive cosmetics, or even Careless Dasher’s Treasure.

Fishing Poles

Two new Fishing Poles have been introduced in The War Within: the Bismuth Fisherfriend and the Aqirite Fisherfriend.

These new Fishing Poles are crafted through Engineering and offer specific bonuses:

Fishing Hats in The War Within

In The War Within, three new Fishing Hats have been introduced, each offering unique bonuses to enhance your fishing experience.

Temporary Fishing Hats (7 Real-Time Days):

Tentacled Hat
Bonus: +5 Fishing

These hats are temporary and provide a short-term boost to your Fishing skill.

Permanent Fishing Hat:

Weavercloth Fishing Cap
Crafted by: Tailoring (Skill 35)
Bonus: +48 Perception

The Weavercloth Fishing Cap is a permanent item and grants a significant boost to Perception, increasing your chances of catching rare fish.

Equipment Slot for Fishing Hats:

Unlike other Profession Accessories, there is no designated Profession slot for Fishing Hats. You equip these hats in the same way you would equip the classic Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat.

Fishing Gear in The War Within:

Fishing is a gear-intensive activity, and while many old fishing items will still be functional in The War Within, some of them may work a bit differently. The new Fishing Hats and Poles introduced in this expansion are likely to replace older gear, offering specialized bonuses to enhance your fishing experience in Khaz Algar.

Algari Weaverline

The Algari Weaverline is a new attachment introduced in The War Within, crafted by Tailors and designed to enhance the fishing experience for every character in your Warband. This item can be attached to any Fishing Pole and is slotted into the Fishing Rod slot in the Fishing Professions Journal.

Enhancements:

Algari Weaverline: This base attachment can be applied to your Fishing Pole, providing the foundation for further enhancements.
Algari Anglerthread: Acquired through Fishing and participating in the Hallowfall Fishing Derby, this thread increases your Fishing Skill by +1 per thread, up to a maximum of 100.
Algari Seekerthread: Also obtained through Fishing and the Hallowfall Fishing Derby, this thread boosts your Perception by +1 per thread, up to a maximum of 100.

As you gather more Algari Anglerthread and Algari Seekerthread, you can enhance your Algari Weaverline, significantly boosting both your Fishing Skill and Perception, making it easier to catch rare fish and improve your overall fishing success in Khaz Algar.

The Hallowfall Fishing Derby in The War Within

The Hallowfall Fishing Derby is a World Event in The War Within that offers players a weekly quest to catch three specific Trophy Fish. This event not only challenges your fishing skills but also rewards you with Mereldar Derby Marks.
