The Current Profession System
Since Dragonflight, the profession system has undergone significant changes, becoming more complex than it has been in many years. Due to the extensive nature of these updates, the basic knowledge about professions in patch 10.0 is covered in a dedicated guide. There, you’ll find everything you need to know about manufacturing details, collection details, recrafting, and a separate page covering all aspects of crafting orders.
Tip: If your character is a Kul’Tiran, you benefit from the racial bonus Jack of All Trades, which increases all crafting skills. As a Pandaren, you benefit from the racial bonus Gourmand, which specifically boosts your cooking skills.
Cooking Teacher in Dornogal
You can learn Khaz Algar Cooking from the following teachers starting at character level 68:
- Alliance & Horde: Athodas in Dornogal (coordinates: 44.21, 45.79)
If you’re having trouble locating your teacher, you can always ask a city guard for assistance.
Why is Cooking Useful in The War Within?
In The War Within, 
Cooking remains a viable profession for both utility and gold-making.
- Feasts are a staple in any Raider’s diet! Cooks will be responsible for crafting Feasts, like Feast of the Midnight Masquerade, for Raiders throughout The War Within.
- Each Cooking recipe requires a handful of Prepared Ingredients. Chefs of any skill will be able to turn raw meats, fish, and Mycobloom into ingredients for themselves or other Chefs.
- As a bonus, Chefs will be able to create their Hearty versions of each meal. These Hearty items will persist through death and can be shared with your entire Warband!
Cooking: A Reliable Goldmaking Profession in The War Within
Cooking has consistently been a strong gold-making profession across expansions, and The War Within is no exception. Much like in Dragonflight, Cooking in The War Within does not feature any specializations, making it an ideal choice for players seeking a more straightforward yet profitable goldmaking experience.
- Consistent Demand: PvPers, Mythic+ players, and Raiders all require food to enhance their stats, ensuring that Cooking items remain in high demand throughout the expansion. This consistent need for stat-boosting meals and feasts guarantees a steady market for those who invest time in Cooking.
Things you can Make with Cooking
For those unfamiliar with Cooking, the Profession has traditionally focused on Reagents, Meals, and Feasts. Cooking in The War Within is no different, bringing some new recipes to the crafting table.
- Feasts: 4 Feasts are coming to Cooking in The War Within. These feasts, like Feast of the Divine Day, are a necessity in any Raiding party.
- Stat Bonuses: Chefs will be able to craft a variety of meals, like Outsider’s Provisions, that boost a player’s Secondary Stats. Different stat combinations and bonuses are determined by the type of meal you are crafting.
- Chefs who want to assist other cooks or capitalize on the market can focus on crafting Prepared Ingredients. These versatile ingredients are essential components in various meals and can either be used in your own cooking or directly sold on the Auction House to other chefs in need. Crafting and selling these ingredients provides a reliable way to contribute to the community or generate consistent income.
Khaz Algar Cooking Level: 1-100
The most straightforward way to level up your Cooking in Khaz Algar is to use the materials you have on hand and progress as far as possible. However, the recipes are relatively complex and often require a significant amount of materials. Be prepared to gather or purchase a substantial amount of ingredients.

Leveling War Within Cooking
Levels 1 – 35
30x Portioned Steak
- Materials: 150x Basically Beef
- Unseasoned Field Steak: Use the Portioned Steak you just made to craft as many Unseasoned Field Steaks as possible.
- Hearty Food: Use the Unseasoned Field Steak as an ingredient to craft Hearty Food.
Levels 35 – 65
At this stage, you can purchase cooking ingredients from Kronzon, the cooking supply vendor near the trainer. These ingredients aren’t listed in the guide since they can be easily bought in bulk at a low cost. Use Shift+Left Click to buy more than one at a time.

- Delver’s Waterskin
- Granulated Spices
- Khaz Algar Tomato
- Twined Herbs
35 – 45:
- 5x Meat and Potatoes

- Materials: 100x Portioned Steak
55 – 65:
- 5x Jester’s Board
- Materials: 250x Fresh Fillet, 100x Portioned Steak

Choose one of the following recipes and craft it 20 times:
1. Beledar’s Bounty
- Materials: 150x Portioned Steak

2. Empress’ Farewell
- Materials: 500x Chopped Mycobloom, 200x Spiced Meat Stock
- Recipe Source: Sold by Polo in the City of Threads.
- Cost: 1500x Kej
3. Outsider’s Provisions
- Materials: 500x Fresh Fillet, 200x Spiced Meat Stock
- Recipe Source: Sold by Collector Z’til in the City of Threads.
- Cost: 2638x Kej
Levels 85 – 100
5x Everything Stew
- Materials: 75x Portioned Steak, 75x Spiced Meat Stock, 75x Chopped Mycobloom, 75x Fresh Fillet
- Recipe Source: Sold by Waxmonger Squick in The Ring of Deeps for 1000x Resonance Crystals.
Alternative Approach: If the previous recipes are selling well at the Auction House or you find them useful for personal use, you can continue crafting those up to level 100. Although they turn green for the last 8 points, they boost the highest secondary stat, making them popular among players. On the other hand, Everything Stew increases the lowest stats, which might make it less in demand.
Professional Equipment for the Chef
Since Dragonflight, profession equipment has become an integral part of crafting and gathering professions, enhancing your capabilities with additional stats like crafting speed, inspiration, and skill. However, Cooking is an exception, featuring only one accessory slot instead of the usual two. Despite this, you can still significantly improve your culinary profession with the right equipment.
